The Quarterly Newsletter of College Avenue Baptist Church December 2009, January and February 2010
Then things got a little crazy. In late May the prognosis for Dad's cancer went from "you are a medical miracle," to "you only have 2 to 4 months to live." In just two short months he was gone. Life got very busy after the prognosis and hasn't slowed down since: helping Mom deal with the estate and all the adjustments, keeping up with three active kids, and other demands. As it now stands, I will do well to complete a second reading of the Bible by the end of December. Believe me, I understand how the seasons of life can affect the time we have to spend practicing personal and spiritual disciplines such as regular exercise, Bible reading, and prayer. Yet, as I look back, I'm really glad I began the year by storing up God's Word in my heart. It really made a difference when the difficult and demanding times came. I can't say i handled everything the way I should have, but I know having the Word of God in my heart made a tremendous difference. With that in mind, let me encourage you to find a good Bible reading plan, devotional guide, or Bible study and commit to digging into God's Word in 2010. If you are not involved in regular Bible study, consider joining a class on Sunday morning and join us regularly for Worship. I pray that we might agree with the Psalmist when he said: O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. Pslam 119:30-32 (NIV)
God continues to bless us in so many ways and I can't stress enough how we need to continually praise Him and thank Him for these blessings. A special thank you to Karen, Stacey, Sonya, Cristi, Bruce, and Mike. Your sacrifice isn't going unnoticed. Shirley and I would like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a very merry, blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you so much for your support in 2009 and here's to looking ahead and worshipping our Lord together in 2010. Your Brother in Christ, Bill
Legacy of Love by Katie Combs. This year's musical teaches on reinforcing the message of love and the importance of giving to others, not just at Christmas but throughout the year. Please plan to join us for our children's presentation of this musical!
Building for Eternity is underway! . . . . it has been under construction but is not yet finished. Ezra 5:16 To date we have received 24 pledges totaling $29,155. Every $52 contributed represents available funding to cover the cost of one square foot of the new building. Since the size of the building is 70'x80', that means we need to raise enough donations to complete 5,600 square feet. To date we have received funds to cover 261 square feet. Pledges can be given at any time, renewed as often as desired, and unpledged contributions are certainly always welcome. Please join us in praying that God will supply the funding needed to complete the project as soon as possible.
Envelopes will be available for pick up soon. One box per family unless otherwise requested. Please contact Toni if you would like additional boxes for other family members, or if you don't find a box with your name listed.
The sign up sheet for your opportunity to furnish flowers for a Sunday workship service next year will be posted soon. Please consider honoring or celebrating any important people or occasions in your life by helping enhance our worship service in this way.
By the time you read this, Thanksgiving will have come and gone. Many people have gone back to "life as usual" preparing for the holiday season. I hope that each of us remembers every day to find something to be thankful for. As the Food Pantry coordinator I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you once again. Thank you to those who have donated time and pantry items to this ministry. Without the CABC family there would be no such ministry here. I can assure you that those who receive them are very grateful. I also want to thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as coordinator for the last few years. It is no exaggeration to say that I have truly enjoyed the time spent working with this ministry. I've enjoyed watching God at work through the humble gifts of food and other necessities. However, the time has come for me to turn my focus in another direction. I am very pleased to inform you that Sandy Black has volunteered to take over the Food Pantry as of January. I know she will do a great job working to share God's love through the gift of food. November was a very busy one. We were tested and stretched to come up with enough supplies to meet the need. Over and over again I watched as God proved to be faithful in supplying what was needed. Would you consider being one of the instruments God chooses to use when meeting the needs of others in the coming months? It may be as simple as picking up an extra can or box at the grocery store! You may feel led to help as a volunteer, you will be welcomed with open arms! Ask God what He would have you do. I guarantee that He will let you know. Any non-perishable grocery item, paper goods, or personal hygiene items are in demand. We'll also accept refrigerated/frozen items if you will contact Sara or Sandy first to make sure that there is room in our refrigerators and freezers. In Christ's Love, Sara Peters
