The Quarterly Newsletter of College Avenue Baptist Church June, July, and August 2010
In our December Business Meeting of 2009 our Deacons and Church Council jointly recommended the church consider revising our Church Covenant. Since the proposal was overwhelming supported by those present, both groups began working together on a draft proposal. After much prayer, deliberation, and research, a new covenant was distributed for consideration in our April Business Meeting. Recently, we began a new series of Sunday morning messages aimed at examining the biblical basis behind the statements contained in a proposed revision of our Church Covenant. You will find enclosed in this newsletter the proposed revision. Please read it prayerfully, and join us for worship as we continue our study over the next few weeks. From the very beginning, I have stressed that the convenant of the church needs to be understood, supported, and upheld by the members of the church. It needs to be OUR covenant! For that reason, all members are urged to join us in discussing the merits of the proposed covenant in our next Business Meeting on Wednesday, June 9, at 6:30 P.M. Please be aware that adoption of the proposed covenant will require an amendment to our constitution which states, "the covenant that binds this church fellowship shall be the covenant adopted by the body, at the time of its constitution." In addition, our by-laws state, "the constitution may be amended by presenting in writing the proposed changes... at least 60 days before a vote is taken... [and] these changes may become effective by a three-fourths majority of those members present and voting." Therefore, let it be understood that should the revised covenant be favorably received in June, a constitutional amendment referencing the proposed covenant would need to be approved in our Business Meeting on August 11 before the new covenant would be in effect. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this matter. In Christ's Love, Clark
Spring has sprung!!!!! As we look forward to summer, I have something to ask of you. Before you know it, we will be moving into the new building and we should be preparing now for this step of faith. Not only do we want to have a praise band and worship team, but, I think it would be great to have a worship choir to support the rest of the team. I have never been one to beg for help, but, if you are interested in this effort, come and talk to me or show up for rehearsal at 7:30 P.M. each Wednesday evening. I have always been one to believe if God has given you a talent and you don't use it, you will lose it. Please be in prayer about this matter. Your Brother in Christ, Bill
We have been praying, if it is God's will, that He will provide the funding needed to replace the furnace and air conditioning in our current building before the weather turns cold this Fall. The cost for replacement is estimated to be around $6,300. We have also been praying in the same way regarding the replacement of the carpet and tile in the current building. To replace both the carpet and tile has been estimated to have a cost around $10,000. God has been at work and our prayers are being answered! To date $559 has been received for the furnance/AC and $7,000 has been received for replacement of the carpet and tile.
Do you have a gas grill that the church could borrow for the week of June 19-26. Mission Builders will be here working to help us complete the new building. They would like to have 4-5 grills to use for cooking meals. If you would like to volunteer the use of your grill, please call the church office. Thank you.

The children have been learning about the Patriarchs of the Old Testament and their relationship with God. In May, 20 children and 10 adults attended NCWHS's performance of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Not only did it fit right in with what they'd learned about Jacob and his sons, but they had the chance to see the children's worship crew and serveral peers perform as well. Great job Melissa, Jessie, and Natalie Sterling, Cara and Caleb Killingsworth, and Tyler Harr. Beginning in June, our focus will change to looking at ourselves and our relationship with Jesus. We will start with the fruits of the spirit and how our relationship with Jesus is reflected in our life. Mission and ministry opportunities are a regular part of our worship experience. A special thanks to everyone who makes Children's Worship possible: >Tyler Harr, Cara Killingsworth, and Melissa Sterling - the great crew who handle music & break-out sessions; Joey and Zach Peters, Marcus Ratcliff - who support our lessons with the puppet ministry; Jessie Sterling - a wonderful sub and Dianna Karr who serves as team leader.
